Alabama spay/neuter Receives $100,000 Donation!
February 21,2022— Birmingham, Alabama – In recognition of National Spay Day on February 22, VPFunds and Ken
Jackson have contributed $100,000 to Alabama Spay/ Neuter to increase the
number of low-cost surgeries for dogs and cats in need.
ALSN performed over 16,000 surgeries in 2021, and will exceed that
number in 2022, making spay/ neuter the most cost effective investment in
reducing our homeless pet population here in Alabama.
Executive Director Mark Nelson says, “Our animal shelters continue to be
overrun due to the overpopulation of companion animals in our area. Tragically,
many healthy, adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized due to overcrowding.
Spaying and neutering is the best way to prevent this, and the sustainable,
humane solution to this problem. This generous support from VPFunds and Ken Jackson is a tremendous boost to helping solve our community's homeless pet problem. The numerous surgeries their gift covers will save countless lives."
VPFunds supports many non-profits in the Birmingham area that emphasize
“kindness, consideration, and common sense.”
Ken Jackson is the founder of the Remy Fund for pets and animal services
at the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham and donor of Remy’s Dog
Park at Red Mountain Park.
Mark continues, "Our goal for 2022 is nearly 20,000 surgeries, which we
believe will begin to alleviate overcrowding in local shelters. Without spay/neuter services, the problem will only continue to grow. Together, we can be the solution."
